About the Artist
Chris became infatuated with glass in 2016 when he took a glassblowing elective at a community college in Phoenix, Arizona. What he thought would be a fun hobby quickly became a rooted passion and eventually a career. Over the past ten years, he has immersed himself in the mesmerizing craft of glassblowing, leading workshops, assisting in residencies, and teaching alongside renowned artists such as Therman Statom, Scott Darlington, and Jamex & Einar De la Torre.
Chris’s personal work is informed and centered around his upbringing, family life, and culture. Born in Los Angeles amidst street gang culture and graffiti-clad cityscapes, many of his pieces incorporate vibrant tag-like symbols drawn with hot glass, hand-engraved inscriptions and imagery, and sculpted hands and figures. He implements lost wax castings, blow molds, and hot glass techniques in crafting his pieces. Chris loves the flexibility of molten glass. Its willingness to be blown, sculpted, or cast into virtually anything appeals to Chris’s nature of growth and change. He aims to bring personal narrative into his work through recognizable objects and imagery.
Among the many places that Chris has crafted and displayed his work, he has been featured at The Melting Point in Sedona, Arizona, Duncan McClellan Gallery and the Dali Museum in Saint Petersburg, Florida, Penland School of Craft in Penland, North Carolina, The Dunedin Fine Art Center in Dunedin, Florida, and The Cornell Art Musuem in Delray, Florida.
